Zoom whitening uses patented technology to whiten your teeth. The process is monitored from start to finish by one of our dentists or Oral Heath Therapist and is usually completed within 2 hours. We will provide you with a maintenance kit post appointment for future touch ups if necessary.
Take home tray system
If you choose to do the take home system we will make you a pair of custom whitening trays for your teeth. The whitening gel provided is to be placed in the trays and worn every day, for an advised amount of time, for up to 2 weeks. You will have bleach remaining for touch ups in the future.
Here are few frequently asked questions about our tooth bleaching procedure.
Q. What is Philips Zoom Whitespeed?
A. Philips Zoom Whitespeed is a bleaching process that lightens discolouration of tooth enamel.
Q. What causes tooth discolouration?
A. There are many causes. These include ageing and the consumption of staining substances such as coffee, tea, colas, tobacco and red wine. During tooth formation, consumption of tetracycline, certain antibiotics or excessive fluoride may also cause tooth discolouration.
Q. Who may benefit from tooth whitening?
A. Almost anyone. However, treatment may not be as effective for some as it is for others. Your dentist can determine if you are a viable candidate for this procedure through a comprehensive oral examination, including a tooth shade assessment.
Q. How long will it last?
A. Your whitened smile can last indefinitely, but this will depend on the patient, lifestyle and oral hygiene habits. You will receive a complimentary home bleaching kit, which includes custom-fitted bleaching trays and take-home bleach. It couldn’t be simpler. For most patients, a 45-minute touch-up once every few months is all it takes to maintain your white smile.
Q. Are my teeth more easily stained after whitening?
A. For the first 48 hours, it is important NOT to eat foods which can stain your teeth. After this initial period the chance of staining your teeth is not increased following whitening.
Q. What about my teeth with fillings and crowns?
A. Although the teeth around the fillings will lighten, the fillings themselves and crowns will not whiten to the same extent. Some whitening of tooth-coloured restorations may occur but ceramic fillings and crowns will not change in colour. Any tooth-coloured restorations on your front teeth will need to be replaced after the whitening procedure.
Q. Do I need my teeth cleaned before Philips Zoom Whitespeed?
A. During the Zoom! procedure your teeth will be polished to facilitate the bleaching process. However, any heavy tartar deposits or bleeding gums will need to be resolved prior to Philips Zoom Whitespeed.
Q. Is Philips Zoom Whitespeed safe?
A. Yes. Clinical studies have shown that bleaching with hydrogen peroxide under the supervision of a dentist is 100% safe for the teeth and gums.
Q. Is there anyone who shouldn’t have Philips Zoom Whitespeed?
A. Light sensitive individuals, including those undergoing PUVA therapy (Psolaren+UV Radiation) or other photo chemotherapy, or patients with melanoma, should not undergo the Philips Zoom Whitespeed procedure. Also, patients taking any light sensitive drugs or substances, whether over the counter, prescription or homeopathic, should consult their primary care physician prior to the procedure. Anyone who is not eligible for Philips Zoom Whitespeed for these reasons may be an excellent candidate for Zoom! take-home bleaching.
Q. Are there any side effects?
A. Sensitivity during the treatment may occur with some patients. The Philips Zoom Whitespeed light generates minimal heat which is the usual source of discomfort. Occasionally, minor tingling sensations are experienced immediately after the procedure, but always resolves, usually within a few hours. We recommend taking Nurofen or Panadol after the whitening procedure to assure your total comfort. Philips Zoom Whitespeed is 100% safe and fast. Super-fast! You won’t believe the results!
